PROJECT GRAD SCHOLARS’ BANQUET - CLASS OF 2007

Over 250 guests, including BISD administrators and counselors, community leaders, scholarship donors, students, and parents attended the Project GRAD Scholars’ Banquet on April 25, 2007, at Porter High School.  The evening was a celebration recognizing 89 Project GRAD Scholars for all their hard work towards qualifying for the Project GRAD Scholarship.  Congratulatory messages were provided by Irv Downing, Chairman of the Project GRAD Board of Directors; Denise Blanchard, Member of the Project GRAD Board of Directors; Alonzo Barbosa, Porter High School Principal; and Brett Springston, BISD Area Assistant Superintendent speaking on behalf of Area Assistant Superintendent Rachel Ayala and BISD Superintendent Hector Gonzales.

The high school gym was filled with student pride as the Scholars publicly announced their post-secondary plans to their families and community.  During the presentation of the scholarship medallions, scholars stated: their name, the college or university they planned to attend, and the area of study in which they intended to major.  The audience had the opportunity to see first-hand the excitement of the students that will be awarded the Project GRAD Scholarship.  After four years, the Scholars moved one step closer to realizing their dream of a higher education.
